We held a live Q&A earlier this week with two of our display and paid social experts — Kelly Tolle and Brian Kudler — answering your questions and giving tips for the best ways to improve your social media marketing during the upcoming holiday season. Below are the questions and answers and from the live session:
Q: When is the best time to start holiday marketing?
A: Great question. The sooner the better. We’ve seen businesses start promoting their holiday marketing as early as September. So anywhere between September and November would be an ideal place to start.
Q: How can small businesses get in on the fun during the holidays?
A: Thanks for the question! Although this is a busy time to advertise, all size businesses can get in on the fun and see efficient results. Whether you are a brick-and-mortar store or online business, make sure you are targeting the right people, at the right time, with the right message.
Q: What types of businesses other than Retail need to plan for the holidays?
A: All types of businesses should plan for the holidays. If you have a direct response strategy, you should be planning to beat out your competition with the rising CPMs. Test different creative and offers as the holidays approach to understand the best message that will resonate when the holidays are at its peak.
Q: Is holiday marketing reserved only for B2C or ecomm companies? How can B2B companies also take advantage of the season?
A: This is a great topic of discussion. The holiday market is not only reserved for B2C or eCommerce companies. B2B companies can take advantage of this season because many strategic purchases are decided on in the fourth quarter and carried out in the New Year. To take advantage of the busiest shopping season of the year, make sure you are targeting the right people, at the right time, with the right message.
Q: Should you swap out creative for holiday creative even if you don’t have a special offer?
A: Definitely! Keeping your creative relevant to the season is always an efficient way to increase engagement and brand awareness. You should always be creative testing no matter the time of year.
Q: What social platforms do you recommend using for holiday marketing?
A: While there are many platforms you can use for holiday marketing, it’s highly recommended that you test into each. Facebook is a great start for social holiday marketing!
